Content/Lesson Development

Step 1: Introduction

The teacher introduces the lesson by asking students:
“When you read a story, how do you find answers to questions quickly?”

Discuss responses and link to today’s topic: “Reading to Answer Specific Questions.”

 

Teacher explains: Reading to answer specific questions means reading a passage with the aim of finding exact information that answers particular questions.

 

Step 2: Presentation

Teacher explains and demonstrates:

1. Read the questions first – so you know what you’re looking for.

2. Underline key words in each question.

3. Scan the passage for those key words or related ideas.

4. Read around that part to confirm the answer.

5. Write the answer clearly.

Example: If the question says, “Where did the boy find the wallet?”
→ Look for “wallet” or related words in the passage.

 

Step 3: Class Activity

1. Students read a short passage (see below).

2. They work in pairs to answer questions based on the passage.

3. Teacher guides and corrects as needed.
