Reading to Answer Specific Questions

READING TO ANSWER SPECIFIC QUESTIONS

Reading to answer specific questions” means reading a passage with a clear purpose — to find exact information that answers given questions. It’s a reading comprehension skill where the reader focuses on locating specific details in a text instead of reading everything carefully.

Example:

If the question is:

“When did Nigeria gain independence?”
You don’t need to read the whole passage. You scan the text to find the date or year related to independence — 1960.

Steps

1. Read the questions first to know what to look for.

2. Scan the passage for key words or phrases related to the question.

3. Read around that part to confirm the correct answer.

4. Write your answer clearly and correctly.

Purpose

1. Saves time

2. Improves focus

3. Helps in comprehension tests and exams
