PARTS OF SPEECH 

1. NOUN 

A noun is a name of a person, place, thing, or idea.
Examples: boy, Lagos, book, happiness, teacher, car

Example sentences:

1. The boy is playing.

2. I live in Lagos.

2. PRONOUN 

A pronoun is a word used in place of a noun.
Examples: I, you, he, she, it, we, they

Example sentences:

1. He is my friend.

2. They are reading.

3. We love music.

 

3. VERB 

A verb shows action or state of being.
Examples: run, jump, sing, is, are, write

Example sentences:

1. The children run fast.

2. She is happy.

3. He writes neatly.

 

4. ADJECTIVE 

An adjective describes a noun or pronoun.
Examples: tall, red, beautiful, three, kind

Example sentences:

1. The tall man smiled.

2. She wore a red dress.

3. He is a kind boy.

 

5. ADVERB 

An adverb describes a verb, adjective, or another adverb.
Examples: quickly, very, well, yesterday, slowly

Example sentences:

1. She runs quickly.

2. He speaks well.

3. The story is very interesting.

 

6. PREPOSITION 

A preposition shows relationship between a noun/pronoun and other words (usually time, place, or direction).
Examples: in, on, at, under, over, between

Example sentences:

1. The book is on the table.

2. She sat under the tree.

3. He arrived at noon.

 

7. CONJUNCTION 

A conjunction joins words, phrases, or clauses.
Examples: and, but, or, because, although

Example sentences:

1. I like tea and coffee.

2. She is tired but happy.

3. We stayed home because it rained.

 

8. INTERJECTION 

An interjection shows strong feeling or emotion.
Examples: oh, wow, hooray, alas, ouch

Example sentences:

1. Wow! That’s amazing!

2. Oh! I forgot my bag.

3. Hooray! We won the game.
